The story behind it

Hello! I am the person behind SirenPearls. I would like to take a little time here to tell you a bit about myself and my work. ♥
My name is Jasmin and I live in a small village in the south of Germany, near Ulm. I have always been a big fan of mystical creatures and fantastic stories. So, in 2013, I started mermaiding (i.e., swimming with a mermaid tail). What most people probably shake their heads at—why an adult would throw herself into the water in a costume—became a very beautiful hobby for me, where I could also be creatively active. I made my own shell accessories and experimented with silicone, which is mainly used in the film industry for masks. In the same year, a friend suggested we go to a convention dressed as fairies. Unfortunately, my initial attempts were anything but successful. The wings were not durable, and I didn't find them particularly beautiful either.

In 2016, I then created my label "SirenPearls," after having been active in the German manga drawing scene under the artist name "PaperyStar" since 2007. At that time, I was in the middle of my training as a fashion designer, which, of course, perfectly complemented my interest in creative work. We learned everything there that a future fashion designer needs, from material science to pattern making to manufacturing. Unfortunately, I quickly realized that the fashion industry was not for me, even though I don't regret having learned all these things. I had always been more interested in designing elaborate and creative costumes than mass-produced goods. So, I applied for an apprenticeship as a tailor at the theater. Unfortunately, positions are very rare these days, so I first worked odd jobs. However, I never gave up on my wing experiments, and at the beginning of 2016, after countless failed attempts and tears, I was finally happy with a pair of wings.

What was basically only meant as a temporary solution for the next application phase is now what I have been doing independently for several years.

Thank you for your numerous support and for accompanying me on my journey.
